How did North Dakota get its state flag?

North Dakota's state flag was designed by Mrs. Lou Burtness of Bismarck and was adopted by the state legislature in 1911. The flag consists of a blue field with a yellow eagle flying in the center, holding an olive branch in its talons. The eagle is flanked by four stars, representing the four original counties of North Dakota. The words "North Dakota" are written in yellow lettering across the bottom of the flag.
