Farmer Jack is a grocery chain that was based in Detroit, Michigan. The company was founded in 1918 by John A. Jack and his brother William. The company grew rapidly and by the 1950s, it was one of the largest grocery chains in the United States. However, the company began to decline in the 1970s and 1980s due to competition from other grocery chains. In 1989, Farmer Jack was acquired by the Kroger Company. The Kroger Company continued to operate the Farmer Jack stores under the Farmer Jack name until 2007 when they were all converted to Kroger stores.
