The Sahara Desert in Africa is the largest and one of the hottest deserts in the world. It is separated into different regions; the Libyan Desert, which is part of the Eastern Sahara, is the driest point. The mountainous region has rocky areas and sand dunes that reach 400 feet. In general, the Sahara receives less than 5 inches of rainfall annually.
The Mojave Desert in the southwestern part of the U.S. contains the Death Valley, where the maximum temperature is 134 degrees. The expanse is blanketed with sandy soil, gravel and salt flats.
The Arabian Desert is found near the Nile Valley, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Suez. Most of the desert has different elevations of sand dunes that stretch for miles and miles. Almost the entire desert is covered with sand.
