Vicksburg is a historic city situated in Warren County, Mississippi. Its strategic location places it directly on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River.
The city lies approximately 45 miles (72 km) west of Jackson, the state capital, and about 19 miles (31 km) north of Natchez, another significant Mississippi River city. This riverfront positioning made Vicksburg a critical logistics and military hub during the Civil War, most notably during the 1863 Siege of Vicksburg.
