What do the gabrielinos houses look like?
Gabrielino houses were traditionally large, round, and made of a framework of willow branches and thatch. The structures were as large as 40ft in diameter. Depending on the weather conditions, the houses could be open-sided or closed with thatching. The houses were insulated by digging soil out from under the structure to create a lowered floor surface.
Other types of dwellings included large rectangular structures for ceremonies, and specialized sweathouses for purification rituals were also constructed of willow rods and thatch roofs.
