Where in south America did potatoes come from?
Potatoes originated from the region of the Andes Mountains in South America. Wild potato species can still be found growing in this area, particularly in the countries of Peru, Chile, and Bolivia. The ancient civilizations of the Andes, such as the Incas, cultivated and domesticated potatoes as a staple food crop, and they spread to the rest of the world through exploration and trade.
