What is the Samoan

The Samoan tala is the currency of the Independent State of Samoa. It was introduced in 1967, replacing the Samoan pound at a rate of 2 tala = 1 pound. The tala is divided into 100 sene.

Coins

The first coins of the Samoan tala were issued in 1967 in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 sene. In 1974, a new series of coins was introduced, which included a new 1 tala coin. The 1 and 2 sene coins were discontinued in 1984, and the 50 sene coin was discontinued in 1990.

Banknotes
