The South China Sea is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean, located between China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Taiwan. It is the largest sea in the world by surface area, and the third largest by volume. The average depth of the South China Sea is 1,212 metres (3,976 ft), and its maximum depth is 5,560 metres (18,240 ft) in the Manila Trench.
