Construction Timeline

• Land Acquired: 1919 (William Randolph Hearst inherited 250,000-acre ranch).
• Architect: Julia Morgan (California's first licensed female architect).
• Construction: 1919–1947 (never fully "finished"; work stopped due to Hearst's declining health/finances).
• Style: Eclectic Mediterranean Revival – Spanish Colonial, Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque elements blended with Hearst's massive art collection.

The Complex
