Although the castle is open to the public as a museum and a historic site, the Habsburgs retain private living quarters within the castle. Archduchess Elisabeth and her family often spend time residing at Bran during certain periods of the year, but the castle is otherwise open for visitors to tour.
It's worth noting that while Bram Stoker's famous gothic horror novel "Dracula" helped popularize the association between Bran Castle and the fictional vampire Count Dracula, there is no direct historical connection between the castle and the literary character created by Stoker.
