Alaska is the largest state in the United States, but it is also the least populated. It is located in the northwest corner of North America, bordering Canada and Russia. Alaska is home to a diverse landscape, including mountains, tundra, forests, and glaciers. Alaska became a U.S. state in 1959.
Both Hawaii and Alaska are considered to be "distant states" because of their remote locations. This makes it difficult for them to participate in some of the same activities as the other states, such as attending meetings in Washington, D.C. However, Hawaii and Alaska are both full members of the United States, and they have the same rights and privileges as the other states.
