When did Americans want to settle in Texas?

Americans began settling in Texas in the early 19th century. The first major influx of American settlers occurred in the 1820s, when Stephen F. Austin founded the first Anglo settlement in Texas, which was then part of Mexico. This was followed by a wave of immigration from the Southern United States in the 1830s and 1840s. The annexation of Texas by the United States in 1845 led to a further increase in American settlement, and by the mid-19th century, Americans were the dominant ethnic group in Texas.
