What are surrounding states?

The surrounding states or the neighboring states of a particular state or region are the states or political entities that share a common border with it. These neighboring states can have geographical, historical, cultural, or economic connections and interactions with the state in question.

For example, if we consider the state of California in the United States, its surrounding states would be Oregon to the north, Nevada and Arizona to the east, and Baja California (Mexico) to the south.
