What is state song?
"Maryland, My Maryland" is the state song of Maryland. It was written in 1861 by James Ryder Randall, a Confederate sympathizer, following the Union occupation of Baltimore. The song was set to the music of "Lauriger Horatius", a German student song. "Maryland, My Maryland" was adopted as the official state song in 1939. It is considered one of the most passionate and stirring songs of the Civil War era, and is still sung today at sporting events and other patriotic gatherings.
