Klamath Falls is located on the shore of Upper Klamath Lake, which is almost 30 miles long and eight miles wide. The lake is the largest body of freshwater west of the Rockies. The lake offers a range of family-friendly recreational activities popular with children, including fishing, boating, camping and swimming. If you are in Klamath Falls during the first week of December, the Snowflake Festival is an annual event geared toward families and children that takes advantage of the talents and efforts of the city's residents. The festival features a host of events and activities celebrating the winter season, such as a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and it culminates with a parade.
The Children's Museum of Klamath Falls has interactive exhibits for children and youth. Regular exhibits include doctor's office, the post office, the grocery store, the beauty salon and the fire station. Exhibits, which emphasize experimentation in science, offer lessons about the local environment (Klamath Basin), world travel, and sound and music. An area is available specifically for toddlers and infants.
Klamath Falls is home to eight city parks with a variety of activities for children. The parks offer an assortment of picnic areas, playgrounds, sports fields and campgrounds. Several of the parks have hiking trails that afford opportunities for seeing wildlife, such as at Veterans' Memorial Park, which is located on the shore of Lake Ewauna. Veterans' Memorial Park also has a vintage steam locomotive on site.
