Things for Couples in Michigan to Do

Halfway between east and west, Michigan offers couples everything from a large-scale metropolis to sandy beaches near five-star resorts. Detroit, the state's largest city, has many attractions, including museums, a zoo and several sports teams. Outside Detroit, Michigan has a diverse rural area full of wineries, lakes and places to sunbathe. Check out four places where couples can find things to do: Detroit, Mackinac Island, Coldwater Country and Traverse City.

  1. Detriot

    • Forget everything you've heard about Detroit. Just look in the right places. Visit The Henry Ford Museum, located right outside of Detroit, and see collections of Ford's original cars. Head to the riverfront and stroll or bike to admire the view. Take a few dollars to spare to the MotorCity Casino, which has 24-hour gaming in three different casino areas.

    Mackinac Island

    • Located off the peninsula's tip, Mackinac Island boasts five-star hotels, a state park, and a 19th-century fort kept in immaculate condition. Ride in a horse-drawn carriage around the island. Or for the more sweet-tooth inclined, indulge on Mackinac Island fudge -- a specific variety found only the island. With all this, "Conde Naste Traveler" named Mackinac one of its top 10 islands in the world.

    Coldwater Country

    • Relax at the side of a freshwater lake, one of more than a hundred freshwater lakes in Coldwater. Ride on Steam Engine No. 10, a 19th-century train still in working condition that glides you along Michigan's oldest railroad line. Or shop in many local Amish communities for baskets, chairs and other woodworking gifts.

    Traverse City

    • Take a wine tour at one of the award-winning wineries, like Bel Lago and Chateau Grand Traverse. Walk through Traverse City's quaint downtown and tree-lined sidewalks. Enjoy the sun on the 180 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline close to Traverse City's downtown.
