Pennsylvania has much to offer the history enthusiast looking for monuments. Throughout the state, a history buff will find many historical monuments in remembrance of famous people and events. Managed by the National Park Service, many of these national monument sites have park historians dress in period costumes relating the history of the site.
The famous Independence National Historical Park located in downtown Philadelphia, provides visitors a look at the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and revolutionary re-enactments. The Betsy Ross house is within walking distant.

Edgar Allan Poe lived in Philadelphia from 1838 to 1844. The house in which he lived is a monument to his life and literary work. During the time he lived in the house, he edited and wrote critical review for magazines, invented the modern detective story, and wrote "The Fall of the House of Usher."

The Eisenhower National Historic Site, located near the Gettysburg battlefield was home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The farm was a presidential and a working farm. The farm housed a prize herd of Angus cattle, as well as a skeet range and a golf course.

The Field of Honor Memorial for hijacked Flight 93, located at the crash site in southwestern Pennsylvania, now houses a new visitor center. The center opened July 8, 2010 and provides the story of the flight and the 40 passengers and crew. The visitor center is located outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The memorial is still under construction.

The famous Gettysburg battleground is located 50 miles northwest of Baltimore. The site is home to a national military park that hosts battle re-enactments during the summer months. The park is the is the site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. The battlefield was also the site of President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg's Address.
