The city ranked safest based on a comparison among well-known and populous cities is Scottsdale, Arizona. Not only do they have a very low crime rate--at only 179.72 violent crimes per 100,000--their rate of sex offenders is extremely low, with only 40 registered sex offenders living in the city. With approximately 235,000 residents, those numbers are quite low.
You can be near the capital of the United States and play it safe. The number of violent crimes in Arlington is slightly lower than Scottsdale at 157.64, but they do have a smaller population, which makes up the difference. The number of registered sex offenders living in the area is recorded as 115.
The well-known El Paso comes in third on the list of safest cities to live in the United States. Their rate of violent crime is significantly lower than the national average, at 392 violent crimes per 100,000 people living in the region. Their rape average, though, is high: 47.3 per 100,000 (the national average is 33.1 per 100,000). However, El Paso ranks high in all other categories.
You will get both a big-city vibe and small-town charm in Ann Arbor, which boasts a population of 114,000 residents. Their violent crimes rate is higher than the first two entries on this list, but it is still low, at 257.9 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. Only 86 registered sex offenders live in the area.
Arizona certainly does seem to have some rather safe cities within its boundaries. This is one of the largest cities on the list of safest cities, with a population of 463,552--keep that in mind as you read through the statistics. They do have 256 registered sex offenders, but that is due to the large population. Their crime rate per 100,000 people is 493.79.
