  1. Washington Monument

    • The Washington Monument is part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks and is one of the most recognizable structures in the city. Completed in 1884 and built to honor one of the nation's founding fathers, George Washington, the monument stands 555 feet, 5.5 inches tall. Visitors can see more than 20 miles from the top of the monument, including views of many of the city's attractions. Admission to the Washington Monument is free, but you do need an advance ticket.

    Lincoln Memorial

    • The Lincoln Memorial is a "must-see" for visitors to the capital city and it is another part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks. This monument sits at the west end of the Mall across the Reflecting Pool on the opposite side from the Washington Monument. Visitors can access the Lincoln Memorial 24 hours a day free. Plan your visit between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. when it is staffed with informative national park rangers.

    The Jefferson Memorial

    • The Jefferson Memorial, situated on the south bank of the Tidal Basin, provides amazing views of the Washington Monument to the north. The memorial is part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, and is surrounded by the famous D.C. cherry trees that are often photographed full of cherry blossoms in the spring. There is no fee to visit the Jefferson Memorial, which is open 24 hours a day. National park rangers are on duty daily from 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. to offer assistance.
