It used to be that finding a bar friendly to the biker community was a difficult thing. However, with the rising popularity of motorcycles and the growing public acceptance of bikers as a subculture, biker bars are becoming less and less about simply letting bikers through the door and more about catering to the specific wants and needs of the biker community. Biker bars are now a common sight in most major cities around the country, and there are many in California.
Located on 5th Street in Hollister, California, the Whiskey Creek Saloon is the gathering point for the semi-annual Hollister Biker Rally. If the genre of the "biker" started anywhere, it started in Hollister. The events in the Marlon Brando movie "The Wild One" are based on events in Hollister. The Whiskey Creek Saloon keeps this tradition alive. If anything, this bar is little more than a local dive, but with the history of being at the center point of a cultural revolution.
Located off Elizabeth Lake Road in Lake Hughes California, Harley's Rock Inn certainly benefits from sharing it's name with the storied motorcycle brand. It's open week long and is a popular starting and stopping point for many day rides. It's located in an old, stone style building with an outdoor seating area. It features live entertainment on the weekends and a biker oriented atmosphere, according to its owner and operator, Stephen Harley Sheldon.
Harold's Saloon is located off of Megginson Lane in Riverside, California, and is touted as a true biker bar. Cheap pools games, cheap beer and a selection of god music on the weekends. Though the bar caters to local motorcycle clubs, it is a friendly place for the unaffiliated biker as well. It has been a stalwart club, resisted any change from its basic, tried and true formula of a friendly place with cold beer.
