What where the first people to live in New Hampshire?

The first people known to have lived in the area now known as New Hampshire were Algonquian-speaking Native American tribes, referred to by Europeans as the Abenaki. It is believed that by the 17th century, the population of the Abenaki in the area numbered roughly 1,500 to 3,000 people.
