Visit a travel-booking Web site, or visit an individual airline's Web site to book directly from the airline.
Enter your departure city and destination city on the site, including the dates you'll be traveling and the number of passengers in your party.
Scroll through the options the site displays. Typically there will be more than one flight from which to choose on your selected date and the flights will be of varying price points.
Select a flight to book and follow the site's directions to proceed with booking online. Enter the passenger names and pay with a credit card. You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your ticket.
Call a travel agent, airline or travel booking site if you'd prefer not to book online. A travel specialist will search for flights and let you know the different options once you say where you are going and when you'd like to travel.
Provide your credit-card number to the person on the phone once you have decided on the flight you'd like to buy.
Check your e-mail for a confirmation of your flights and your e-ticket.
