Collecting Gas from a Lake Bottom

Equipment Needed

• Gas sampling tube
• Weighted anchor
• Rope
• Boat or other transport to the lake bottom

Procedure

1. Assemble the gas sampling tube by connecting the weighted anchor to one end and the rope to the other.
2. Lower the tube into the lake until it reaches the bottom.
3. Allow the tube to sit for a few minutes to collect gas.
4. Carefully raise the tube out of the lake.
5. Transfer the collected gas into a gas collection container.

Safety Precautions

• Wear appropriate safety gear: life jacket, gloves, eye protection.
• Check weather conditions; do not collect in bad weather.
• No smoking or open flames near the sampling tube or collection container.
• If you experience dizziness or nausea, stop immediately and seek medical attention.
