Source of the Sava River
The Sava River (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia – 990 km) rises in the Julian Alps of northwest Slovenia.
- Primary Source: Zelenci Springs near Kranjska Gora (833 m / 2,733 ft).
- Character: Emerald-green, constant 5–6°C, fed by snowmelt & groundwater from Mt. Jalovec.
- Twin Headwaters: Sava Dolinka (from Zelenci) + Sava Bohinjka (from Lake Bohinj) merge at Radovljica → main stem Sava.
Zelenci is a protected nature reserve (since 1992) with boardwalks—popular easy hike. The Sava goes on to become the longest right-bank tributary of the Danube (at Belgrade).
