Although U.S. passports generally are required for travel to Canada, states such as Michigan can issue enhanced driver’s licenses and enhanced state identification cards that can be substituted for passports when traveling to Canadian border cities.
In Canada, the city of Windsor runs Transit Windsor, which operates the Detroit Windsor Tunnel Bus between the two cities. Buses traveling between countries require travelers to fill out and submit customs forms indicating what they are bringing to and from their destination.
