However, there are some exceptions to this rule. Children under 8 years old may ride in the front seat of a vehicle if:
- The child is at least 4 feet 9 inches tall;
- The vehicle is equipped with a passenger airbag that can be manually turned off (or does not have a passenger airbag);
- The child is properly secured in a child restraint system that meets federal safety standards;
- The child is accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other adult who is at least 18 years old.
