Is the length and span of a bridge are same?

The length and span of a bridge are not the same. The length of a bridge is the total distance from one end to the other, while the span is the distance between the supports of the bridge. For example, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco has a length of 1.7 miles (2.7 km), but its main span is only 4,200 feet (1,280 m).
