Metrolink owns 150 passenger cars and 52 locomotives, for a total of 202 cars. Of the 150 passenger cars, 32 are cab cars and 118 are coaches. On weekdays, 144 trains are in operation, while 40 are in use on Saturdays and 26 on Sundays. The passenger trains' weekday use accounts for an equivalent of more than 24,400 automobile trips each day.
Metrolink trains weigh 400 tons each. Passenger cars measure 85 feet long; 9 feet, 10 inches wide and 15 feet, 11 inches tall. Locomotives measure 68 feet long; 10 feet, 7.5 inches wide and 15 feet, 5 inches tall.
Metrolink trains average 39 miles per hour, which includes slower speeds that are necessary for stops at stations and stops to allow oncoming trains to pass. The trains take 1/3 of a mile to come to a complete stop.
Passenger cars are handicap-accessible and each one has a restroom and water fountain. You may store a bicycle or stroller on the train in designated areas as long as space permits. Surfboards are not allowed aboard. There are electrical outlets and tables in each passenger car. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. All luggage must fit under your seat and may not be kept in the aisle.
