Get the right price for your ticket. You can upgrade your ticket to include meals and other amenities, but economy class tickets will always be much cheaper.
Check the policies of the train you're traveling on. Most rail lines require that you confirm your reservations in advance.
Check the time within 20 minutes of departure. Most train platforms don't post departure times any earlier.
Plan your trip in sections. You cannot decide at the last minute to get off a train during a stop and catch another train at a different time. You must book in advance to leave a train and reboard later.
