How to Book Train Travel From Houston to Orlando

Unfortunately, because Hurricane Katrina damaged train tracks and stations, direct Amtrak service from Houston to Orlando on the Sunset Limited line has been suspended indefinitely. There is no word as to when service will be restored, although Amtrak offers connecting service to Orlando from other lines.

  1. Choose Your Route From Houston to Orlando

      Book a ticket to New Orleans and then book a separate ticket for travel to Orlando. This trip will take approxiomately 50 hours, and will require travel on 3 or 4 different trains depending on which route you choose. But you will travel by train the entire way and won't have to make a bus transfer.

      Take a 4-hour bus trip from Houston to Longview, Texas, to catch the Texas Eagle line into Chicago. From Chicago you go to Washington, D.C., on the Capitol Limited line. Finally, you take the Silver Meteor line into Orlando. In total, it takes about 60 hours riding time to make this trip. Total travel time is longer because of layovers.

    Plan Your Trip on Multiple Trains

      Book individual tickets between cities you stop in so that you will have more time to explore them. If time is not an issue, you might as well spend the night in one or more cities on your route to give yourself an opportunity to freshen up and do some sightseeing.

      Pack light. You will have to transport your own baggage most of the time and store it yourself.

      Book a sleeper cabin for at least one leg of your trip, especially if you are traveling overnight or for more than 8 hours. This will be your opportunity to relax in comfort and recharge for the remainder of your long trip.
