Be flexible with your travel times. Charleston's train station is closed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Check station and ticket times. You can book travel anytime at Jacksonville's train station because it is open early in the morning until late at night. However, scheduling your trip to Charleston's train station is more difficult because the station opens mid-morning, closes before 10 p.m. and takes a lunch break.
Don't miss the train. There are only six trains that run through Charleston each week.
Check for special events before booking your train travel. Charleston has special activities during the year like Christmas in Charleston and The Farmers Markets. Advanced reservations are suggested for peak travel times.
Visit a plantation. There are three plantations that are open to the public in Charleston. Take a tour of Drayton Hall, Middleton Place or Charles Pickney House.
Stay in a bed and breakfast. Charleston offers many of these quaint, comfortable rooms, several of which are located in historical homes and buildings. Rate specials depend on what time of year you travel.
