Hotels Near Canisteo, New York

Canisteo is the home of the World Famous Living Sign, and is also one of the first towns to be settled in the area, with the first settlers building a large log cabin that housed four families. The living sign is formed of pine trees planted in the shape of the word Canisteo and is easily visible from the air. Hornell, a slightly larger town, is five miles north. Although no hotels are currently found in Canisteo, there are several in the surrounding towns.

    • The Comfort Inn is in downtown Hornell, close to a number of restaurants. As well as standard amenities, guests get a free newspaper, local calls, Internet and breakfast. All rooms have a DVD player; some have a whirlpool. Ask for a non-smoking room. The hotel has a fitness center and indoor pool, and there is a health club within walking distance. You can also walk to the movies and a nightclub. No pets are allowed. This hotel is just seven minutes from Canisteo.

    Days Inn Hornell

    • The Hornell Days Inn is just a mile from the downtown area, and eight minutes from Canisteo. This hotel has parking for large vehicles and is pet-friendly for a small fee. Rooms have free Internet and a work desk and the hotel also provides fax and copying facilities. Ask about non-smoking rooms. The Days Inn is a half mile from Canacadea State Forest and Hornell has historic interest as well as being an early railroad town.

    Econo Lodge, Hornell

    • Situated on the north side of Hornell, the Econo Lodge is close to Interstate 86 and Stony Brook State Park. Canisteo is a 10-minute drive away. Request a non-smoking room or a room with a balcony. Some rooms are equipped with ironing equipment or coffeemakers. Guests are offered free wireless Internet, local calls, breakfast and use of the fitness center.

    Economy Inn, Alfred

    • Don't forget the locally produced maple syrup.

      A 22-minute drive to the west of Canisteo is the Economy Inn, close to Alfred University and the College of Technology. All rooms at the inn are at ground level and handicap accessible. Guests can get a weekly rate or request an efficiency apartment. A range of restaurants can be found in downtown Alfred. The inn is popular with visitors to the university and with skiers, hikers and birdwatchers. The surrounding area is known for natural beauty, wineries and maple syrup production.

    Caboose Motel, Avoca

    • If you want something a little more unusual and don't mind the extra drive, the Caboose Motel in Avoca has renovated and converted five 1916 cabooses into family-sized motel rooms. With sleeping quarters for up to six people, the cabooses have bathroom, seating, TV and telephone. Guests can have the sound of a train in motion to add to the atmosphere. The cabooses are available from April to October, but more conventional rooms are open all year. The Caboose Motel is 33 minutes from Canisteo, closer to the Finger Lakes area.
