If you want something a little more unusual and don't mind the extra drive, the Caboose Motel in Avoca has renovated and converted five 1916 cabooses into family-sized motel rooms. With sleeping quarters for up to six people, the cabooses have bathroom, seating, TV and telephone. Guests can have the sound of a train in motion to add to the atmosphere. The cabooses are available from April to October, but more conventional rooms are open all year. The Caboose Motel is 33 minutes from Canisteo, closer to the Finger Lakes area.
