Metrotown is located in Burnaby, a suburb 20 minutes east of Vancouver. The area is home to condominiums, parks and lots of shopping. The centerpiece of Metrotown's retail experience is Metropolis, a giant mall with three levels of shopping, dining and entertainment. Visitors from outside Vancouver may present their driver's license to receive a Metrocard at Metropolis, which offers discounts throughout the mall. Hilton has a hotel located in Metrotown that is connected to the Crystal Mall. The more modestly-priced Best Western is a short drive from Metrotown.
Metrotown houses over 400 stores. The mall is anchored by the department stores The Bay, Sears and Zellers. Chapters bookstore has a branch in the mall. Metrotown features internationally-known retailers such as A/X Armani Exchange, Nike, Tommy Hilfilger and Banana Republic. In addition to shopping, visitors may enjoy a film at Famous Players Silver City. The Grand Court of the mall houses special events throughout the year. Past events included performances by Cirque du Soleil and a display of sand sculptures. Metrotown has eight restaurants that serve everything from fast food to Japanese cuisine. The mall's food court offers over 20 vendors, including Tim Horton's, Arby's and KFC. Specialty shops, bakeries and chocolate stores are located throughout the mall. Metrotown contains two grocery stores, Real Canadian Superstore and T & T Market.
Metrotown is also home to the Crystal Mall, which is attached to the Hilton hotel. The mall features many Chinese shops and services, including acupuncturists and doctors of Chinese medicine. The food court offers Chinese and other Asian specialties. A smaller mall, the Metro Town Centre Mall is located next to Metropolis.
Hilton Vancouver Metrotown is located right next to the shopping center. The hotel contains a fitness center, a heated outdoor pool and a business center.
