Lawtey, Florida is located in Bradford county and was established in 1877 after a group of 30 people seeking a warmer climate relocated to northern Florida from Chicago. Lawtey is a small country town that is famous for its speed trap, where tickets are given out by the "Silver Bullet," an unmarked silver police car and the "Black Widow," an unmarked black police car.

The owners are animal-friendly and even have a few goats, roosters and dogs on the property. Located within a couple of miles is a Super Walmart and Tractor Supply. Restaurants are plentiful, including southern-style food at Grannies Restaurant two miles from the Sleepy Hollow, or authentic Mexican cuisine at the Laredo Mexican Restaurant, one of the most highly rated establishments in Starke, less than two miles from the hotel on Highway 301.
