Drake sits at the heart of the Big Thompson Canyon community in the Rocky Mountains, Larimer County, Colorado. The Big Thompson River and mountainous terrain make Drake the perfect place for adventure, with the options ranging from sedentary picnicking, fly fishing and wildlife-spotting at the river's edge through to climbing, rafting, boating and horseback trails. Only one accommodation is available in Drake, with further options concentrated toward Estes Park to the southwest and Loveland to the east.
Just a two-minute walk from the Big Thompson Canyon Road, the River Forks Inn is the only accommodation in Drake. Although most onsite facilities are only open during the spring, summer and fall, rooms and RV slots are available year-round. When in season, guests are treated to a complimentary cooked breakfast, while lunch and dinner are also available from the onsite restaurant. Regular live music and entertainment can be enjoyed on the weekends. Given its location, a selection of outdoor activities are available, including hiking, biking, wildlife trails, horseback riding and hunting. The Big Thompson Canyon area is described as having the "best fly fishing anywhere" on the River Forks' website. When out of season, travelers can buy food from the Indian Village store in the center of Drake or travel 12 miles east to a 7-Eleven in the outskirts of Loveland.
The 2 Eagles Resort is two and a half miles east of Drake, making it the nearest accommodation not located in the city itself. A wide range of mountain and lake activities are available near the resort, including hiking, biking, rafting, boating and rock climbing. Cabins at the resort are each individually designed and themed on a different mountain animal or characteristic; most include kitchen areas; and some have fireplaces. Pets are welcome to stay at the 2 Eagles Resort, with no charges or restrictions specified. As there is no restaurant onsite, guests have to buy in their own food. The Big Thompson Indian Village store is in the center of Drake, where the next nearest eatery, the River Forks Inn, is located.
Situated on the Big Thompson Canyon Road (US-34), the 7 Pines Cabin and RV Park is six miles from the center of Drake and eight miles from Estes Park. 7 Pines has three cabins and a sleeping room available. The 23 RV slots have electric, water and sewage hookups. The 7 Pines is in a remote area, so guests have to visit a selection of eateries in Estes Park, a 15-minute drive away, where Twin Owls Steakhouse, Big Horn Restaurant and Poppy's Pizza and Grill are just a handful of the food and drink options.
With three cottages onsite, Flo Ann's Cottages is six miles away from the town of Estes Park and 10 miles from Drake. Each cottage includes a full en suite, wireless Internet access, separate living room areas with wood-burning fireplaces and kitchenettes. No food or drink is available onsite, so guests will have to travel into Estes Park to dine or buy food to prepare themselves. Notchtop Bakery and Cafe, Longz Grill and Hunter's Chop House are just a 10-minute drive away.
