Opened in 1930, the Phoenix is one of London's most historic theaters. Located at the heart of the West End theater district on Charing Cross Road, the Phoenix's distinctive fascia is a four-columned rotunda. Inside, as well as hosting performances all year-round, the breathtakingly detailed decor makes the Phoenix Theatre a must-visit site whether you see a show or not. A number of hotels are dotted around the West End area, all offering excellent access to the theater, Hyde Park, Soho and wider areas of London using the underground train system.

  1. Hazlitt's Hotel

    • Hazlitt's Hotel is a five-minute walk from the Phoenix Theatre on a side street just off Soho Square. Promising a "location away from the roar of the traffic" on its website, Hazlitt's occupies a renovated Georgian building that dates back to the early 18th century. As such the building is rather splendid, with works of art throughout the hallways and a charming library with working fireplaces. The hotel also hosts a quaint bar which operates an "honesty policy" on payment, allowing you to entertain friends and guests without disruption from staff. Hazlitt's is ideally placed to explore the nearby shopping areas of Oxford Street, Covent Garden and Bond Street, accessible by foot or from Tottenham Court Road tube station. A selection of eateries are located around Soho Square, with Arbutus, serving luxury cuisine, which is a highlight.

    Covent Garden Hotel

    • Located under half a mile from the Phoenix Theatre, the Covent Garden Hotel is a member of the small hotel chain Firmdale. The hotel offers guests an upmarket venue, with a relaxing drawing room and library making for a good place to relax and unwind. An "honor system" is in place for the bar in the library. Brasserie Max, open throughout the day serving rustic English cuisine, authentic afternoon tea and room service make up the dining options at the Covent Garden Hotel. Both a gym and beauty room are also on offer. Nearby eateries include Belgo, a Belgian restaurant; L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, which holds two Michelin stars and Chinatown, all within five minutes walk of the hotel.

    Seven Dials Hotel

    • Situated five minutes walk from the Phoenix Theatre, the Seven Dials Hotel is a small, family-run venue. A full English breakfast is included in your Seven Dials room rate, while guests will have to travel for further meals. The Dial Restaurant, based at the Mountbatten Hotel, provides luxury English cuisine. For an alternative to dining in a restaurant, travelers can take advantage of the close proximity of Hyde Park and enjoy an al fresco meal in the park -- unless you are foiled by the weather, of course. Visitors to the city can take a guided open-top bus tour of the city, which departs from Piccadilly Circus, 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

    Dean Street Town House

    • As its name suggests, this hotel is based in a renovated Georgian town house, five minutes walk from the Phoenix Theatre in the bustling Soho area. The hotel's dining room is open throughout the day serving a classic British menu ranging from pastries and scones in the morning through to oysters in the evening. The fine English tradition of afternoon tea is observed each day between three and six o' clock. Other food and drink options within walking distance include Barrafina tapas restaurant, the Gourmet Burger Kitchen and L'Escargot French restaurant. Those looking for a late night spot can visit the Crown and Two Chairmen bar, Zilli's bar or Ronnie Scott's jazz club.
