Starwood Hotels in Honolulu

The city of Honolulu is the largest in the Hawaiian Islands, and home to Waikiki Beach. The island has long been a well-known tourist destination. Hotels belonging to large chains are along Waikiki and the other beaches surrounding Honolulu. Honolulu is home to four Starwood properties, three of which are in the Waikiki area.

  1. Westin Moana Surfrider

    • Originally opened in 1901, the Moana Surfrider was the first hotel in Waikiki. The hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Places. While it has been renovated several times, the building still has some of the original grace. At the center of the hotel stands a banyan tree, planted in 1904. This was the first tree included on the Rare and Exceptional Tree List if Hawaii in 1979.

The hotel has a private beach and an outdoor pool next to the ocean. The hotel spa sits on the oceanfront, and has nine therapy rooms, two suites for treatment of couples, three rooms for facial treatments, a workout room, and one room for Vichy water showers.

    Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

    • The name of the Princess Kaiulani hotel comes from the last crown princess in the Hawaiian royal family, who was deposed just before Hawaii's annexation to the United States.

The hotel sits less than a tenth of a mile from the King's Village shopping plaza and the International Marketplace, on the Waikiki beach. The 1,142 rooms of the hotel have either a view of the sea or the mountains of Oahu. The hotel rooms are accessible to people with disabilities.

    The Royal Hawaiian Waikiki

    • The Royal Hawaiian hotel originally opened in 1927. The guests have included the Beatles, actors Kevin Costner and Harrison Ford, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and movie star Marilyn Monroe, who stayed during her honeymoon trip with Joe Di Maggio.

The Royal Hawaiian underwent a complete renovation in 2009; it kept the pink facade, but has a new interior design. The hotel has 529 rooms, and is now part of the Luxury Collection of Resorts, one of the Starwood brands.

It is in central Waikiki, less than 1 mile from the International Marketplace shopping center, and 1 mile from the Ala Wai golf course.
