Places to Stay in Positano, Italy

The Italian town of Positano clings to the hillsides along the Amalfi coast. It’s surround by orange, lemon and olive groves and its well cared for gardens reach all the way down to the sea. Positano is an entirely pedestrian town and all vehicles are left in car parks at Piazza dei Mulini. Porters can be hired at these car parks to help visitors transport their luggage to accommodations such as the Hotel Palazzo Murat, Covo dei Saraceni and the Hotel Il San Pietro.

  1. Hotel Palazzo Murat

    • The Hotel Palazzo Murat is a 17th century palace that’s been renovated to serve as a hotel. These renovations haven’t altered the building’s baroque charm since great care had been taken to keep the interior true to its original period. The Palazzo is a 3-minute walk from the beach and operates daily trips along the Amalfi coast onboard the hotel’s boat, the Mariella. Each room has its own terrace that overlooks the hotel’s botanical garden and the picturesque city. Outdoor candlelight leads guests to the Al Palazzo Ristorante located on the grounds. Much of the restaurant’s produce and spices are harvested from the Donna Carmela’s garden that grows next door.

    Covo dei Saraceni

    • The Covo dei Saraceni (Den of Saracens) is situated a little ways up Positano’s terraced hillside and looks directly onto the sea. The guest rooms are bright and airy and decorated in a traditional Mediterranean style. Breathtaking views of Positano are easy to come by at any location within the hotel, including the Cova dei Saraceni’s rooftop seawater swimming pool. The hotel offers 2 separate dining options: The Bar Covo provides light snacks and drinks throughout the day and night while the Ristorante Savino serves fresh seafood and traditional homemade pasta.

    Hotel Il San Pietro

    • The Hotel Il San Pietro was created in the 1970’s by Carlo Cinque and has since become Positano’s only luxury hotel. The hotel was designed to follow the contours of the cliff that it was built on, making it appear as though it’s coming out of the rocks themselves. An elevator in the lobby takes guests down to a small beach at the bottom of the cliff where they can enjoy the sun and the sea. The hotel’s restaurant uses only fresh local ingredients to prepare meals, including olive oil from its own groves. Each morning during the summer, guests are invited on a complimentary boat tour of the Amalfi coast. Since it’s located on the edge of the town, free onsite parking is available for guests staying at the hotel.
