Located in Virginia's western tip, and surrounded by the Jefferson National Forest and Hungry Mother State Park, the small town of Marion provides access to some of the state's most pristine outdoors and tallest mountains. Also known for its rich history, dating all the way back to the first American colonial settlements, the town now serves mainly as a nice little tourist and vacation spot.
Named after the same Revolutionary War officer as the town, General Francis Marion Hotel is an 80-year-old establishment, located in the heart of downtown Marion. This AAA, 3-diamond rated hotel offers 36 guestrooms and suites, all decked out in plush 1920s style furnishings. However, the rooms feature a number of modern luxuries, including flat-screen TVs, terrycloth robes, Egyptian cotton sheets, premium mattresses and pillows, designer bath products and high-speed Internet access. In addition, the main hotel area features a classy restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, and an art gallery/lounge, which serves a variety of beers, cocktails and signature specialty drinks.

Located in the northeast corner of town, right next to the popular Lincoln Theatre, Virginia House M-Star Hotel is one of the few motels in town. Despite its name, the hotel is actually designed as a traditional motor inn, with parking right outside your room door. The very basic guestrooms at Virginia House don't offer much, besides cable TV and high-speed Internet access; however, with its low rates, it may be worth giving up some extra amenities. Aside from the rooms, the motel features an outdoor swimming pool and free continental breakfast.
