Relatively new compared to other cities in India, Pachmarhi, in Madhya Pradesh, was established in 1857 by the British Empire. Because of its location atop the highest point of the Satpura Range in central India, Pachmarhi's other title is "Queen of Saptura." The town is a popular tourist destination because of the nearby ancient caves and lush forests.
