Luxury Hotels with Smoking Rooms in the New Orleans French Quarter

As a tourist destination, there are a number of luxury hotels to be found in New Orleans' French Quarter. Like many other places, smoking has been banned from much of the public sector; it has become difficult for smokers to find accommodating rooms in luxury hotels. While two hotels remain that have smoking rooms or floors available, the only option at other hotels is to step outside when the need for a cigarette arises.

  1. Windsor Court Hotel

    • All rooms in the Windsor Court Hotel are equipped with free wireless internet access, plush terry robes and slippers, and in-suite massages available with only a phone call. Its penthouse offers secluded terraces that overlook the Mississippi River and a baby grand piano. Even its more simple guestrooms come with large Italian marble bath tubs and mini bars. Although not all rooms are designated as smoking rooms, the customer service representative at Windsor can help find the right level of luxury for any smoking guest.

    Royal Sonesta New Orleans

    • Located right on Bourbon Street in the center of New Orleans, Jackson Square is only six blocks from the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Some of its specialty suites have marble floors, French doors, a spiral staircase leading to the upper level and even dressing rooms. Spa services are available upon request. While only some rooms in the hotel are open to smoking, there are also many outdoor patios where smoking is allowed; smokers should look forward to not having to step too far from their beds to indulge in a cigarette.

    • There are many hotels that do not allow smoking in New Orleans' French Quarter. Louisiana enacted a statewide ban on smoking in public places in 2007, which extends to restaurants and certain bars. Many hotels have also followed suit. To avoid paying fines for smoking, be sure to double check rules about smoking in courtyards, poolside and other areas of the hotel.

To take advantage of the many historic hotels in the area, guests should try a non-smoking hotel with an outdoor porch or patio that does allow smoking. Smokers won't have to head down the block for a cigarette and can still experience all of New Orleans down to the very architecture of their historic luxury hotel room.
