The shady, tree-lined streets and picturesque canals of Amsterdam have drawn visitors for many years, but it wasn't until recently that visitors were able to stay in one of the city's iconic houseboats. Houseboat lodgings have opened throughout the 17th century canals of the city center, offering greater privacy than traditional hotels and easy access to many of the city's attractions.
Located near Central Station, Le Maroxidien is a three-room bed and breakfast hotel housed in a renovated freighter dating to 1925. Close to attractions like Scheepvaart Museum and the Nieuwe Markt, the boat is moored on Prins Hendrikkade street, within walking or bicycling distance of much of Amsterdam's city center. Known for its all-organic foods and business practices, the hotel practices energy and water conservation, as well as providing a fully organic breakfast in the cost of booking. The rooms are themed around the countries on India, Mexico and Morocco and feature individual decor, full-size beds and central heating. Two shared washrooms serve all three guest rooms. A common area featuring television, internet and a kitchen is made available for guest use.
