The History of the Radisson Hotel

The Radisson hotel chain is one of the most well-known hotels across the United States. As one of the oldest chains, Radissons can be found around the world today.

  1. Beginnings

    • The first Radisson opened in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1909.

    Name

    • The Radisson is named after French explorer Pierre Radisson.

    Purchase

    • Businessman Curt Carlson purchased the Radisson in 1962. He was known for this customer loyalty programs throughout the 1940s and 1950s.

    Overseas

    • Carlson took the business abroad and opened the first American brand hotel in the USSR. Radisson is also the first hotel to make an overseas partnership (The Radisson and Rezidor).

    Loyalty

    • The Radisson is also the first hotel to offer a travel agency loyalty program for its customers. This allows customers to earn points and free stays at Radissons and partner hotels.
