Motels Near Larsen Bay, Alaska

Larsen Bay is on Kodiak Island off the southern coast of Alaska. With a full-time population of only 96, the easiest way to access Larsen Bay is by a short flight from Kodiak, 60 miles away. Larsen Bay has long been home to the Alutiiq Indians and is known as one of the best fishing locations on the island. Wildlife is abundant in the area, including whales, Kodiak brown bears and caribou. Several lodges in Larsen Bay cater to visitors and offer varying degrees of service.
  1. Larsen Bay Lodge

    • The oldest lodge in operation in Larsen Bay, the Larsen Bay Lodge has been serving guests since 1979. It has two lodges and two cabins to accommodate guests and runs on hydroelectric power instead of generators. Wireless Internet is now available on site. All meals are included in the rate, and the lodge provides guides for hunting and fishing excursions. Hunting and fishing licenses can be purchased at the lodge, except for Kodiak brown bear hunting, which is decided by lottery through the state Department of Fish and Game.

    Kodiak Island Resort

    • With six guestrooms, the Kodiak Island Resort in Larsen Bay can accommodate parties of up to 12 people. Room rates include meals, air transportation from Kodiak, guided fishing and the cleaning and packing of the catch. The resort does not provide liquor, but does offer mixers and soft drinks. Kodiak Island Resort operates fishing excursions using catamarans, each with heated cabins and restrooms.

    Kodiak Legends Lodge

    • Kodiak Legends Lodge has nine rooms in the main lodge, including five suites and a two-bedroom cabin available for guests. Multiple package types are available and include meals, hunting and fishing guides, and transportation to and from Kodiak. Fishing excursions are arranged via float plane. The cost of fishing and hunting licenses is additional, and alcohol is not included.

    Spirit of Alaska Wilderness Adventures

    • On Amook Island, just off the coast of Larsen Bay, Spirit of Alaska Wilderness Adventures offers accommodations in a six-person cabin or in the cannery bunkhouse. Rates are per person, per day, and include fishing and sightseeing guides; food, paper products and transportation from Kodiak is not included. The local grocery stores in Kodiak will deliver food orders directly to the float plane, which is necessary prior to arrival because no stores are nearby.

    Kodiak Accommodations

    • The city of Kodiak is a 30-minute plane ride from Larsen Bay. Numerous lodging options exist in Kodiak for those wishing to visit Larsen Bay for a day only, including a Best Western and a Comfort Inn. The Kodiak Island Visitors Bureau recommends booking early; rooms are limited and fill up quickly during special events.
