How to Travel to Yucatan Peninsula

The Yucatán Peninsula is a dazzling place full of some of the most popular cities in Mexico for tourists to visit. Located on the southern tip of Mexico, the Yucatán is home to Cancún, Cozumel and the richest archeological zones in the Americas. Diving, snorkeling, cave exploration, hiking and trips to ancient Mayan ruins are just a few of the activities the Yucatán has to offer. Fly, cruise, drive or take a bus to one of the most engaging places in Mexico.

Instructions

    • 1

Fly. Most flights arrive at Aeropuerto Internacional de Cancún. Several major carriers from the U.S. and Canada offer direct flight service to Cozumel and Mérida. Other nearby international airports include Chetumal and Capeche.

    • 2

Take a cruise. Several major cruise lines offer service to the Yucatán, including Carnival, Princess, Norwegian and Mexico Cruises.

    • 3

Drive. Feeling adventurous? Hop in a car or hire a rental car at the airport. Roads in the Yucatán Peninsula are generally smooth and well-maintained. Be careful of severe thunderstorms that can impair vision---especially at night.

    • 4

Take a bus. Buses traveling to tourist destinations are clean and air-conditioned and have bathrooms. You can also take a cheaper combi, a car or van run by a collective, though these are generally crowded and hot.
