    • Return to Freedom is a non-profit organization which works to preserve the habitat and improve the lives of wild horses in the United States. The Return to Freedom Sanctuary, situated in Lompoc's Jalama Valley, serves as a safe home to more than 200 wild horses and burros who may face mistreatment or slaughter otherwise. Visitors can tour the facility between May and October, allowing them the chance to observe wild horses in their natural habitat.

    La Purisima Mission State Park

    • Visitors to La Purisima Mission State Park can explore the 1787 mission through self-guided tours. Barring holidays and special events, the mission offers guided tours as well, which run anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. The 2,000-acre park also features an extensive visitor's center and exhibition hall filled with artifacts from the past. The park offers educational re-enactments detailing eighteenth and nineteenth century living throughout the year. As an added bonus, the grounds boast 25 miles of hiking trails.

    Lompoc Wine Trail

    • Situated in wine-friendly Santa Barbara County, the Lompoc Wine Trail directs visitors through a host of vineyards and wineries located throughout the city. Also highlighted along the trail is the affectionately named Wine Ghetto, a region which features a host of industrial wine factories and tasting rooms. During the spring months, Lompoc also plays host to the Santa Barbara County Vintner's Festival, featuring wine from more than 130 makers and cuisine from local gourmet chefs.
