London Sightseeing in One Day

Seeing all of the sights of London in one day can be a quite daunting task. In the event that you have only one day to see everything that London has to offer, put on your walking shoes and get out of bed early because it's going to be a fun-filled day.
  1. Transportation

    • When time is short, how to best travel between destinations becomes an important consideration. The fastest, easiest ways to travel throughout London are the Tube and on foot. The Tube will take you quickly by subway train to stops throughout the city, with many stops conveniently located near tourist attractions such as the Tower of London and Earl's Court. If your sightseeing destinations are close to one another, consider walking rather than taking the train. Walking allows you to see more of the city while also getting you quickly from one destination to another. It's a good idea to get a map showing the city's popular tourist destinations before leaving your hotel to sightsee. These are available in convenience stores or from the front desk at your hotel.

    Make a Plan

    • Because time is of the essence, you don't want to run from one side of town to the other all day because that would waste the precious time you have to see the city. Visit the place that you really want to see first and then move from there to other tourist destinations according to proximity. Use your map to plan your route and navigate. Remember that you won't be able to see everything in one day, so it will work best if you try to stay mostly in one area.

    Suggested Route

    • A suggested route for seeing one day's worth of what London has to offer is to take the Tube to Earl's Court and start walking from there. Earl's Court is a concert venue located in the Kensington area of town. There are several pubs and cafes surrounding the Tube station which will allow you to partake of a hearty breakfast before starting out. Upon leaving breakfast, walk the few blocks up to Kensington Park, where you can view one of London's most beautiful parks as well as visit the home of the late Princess Diana. A quick walk through Kensington Park will take you to Buckingham Palace. Continue past there to Westminster Abbey and Parliament. Cross the Thames and you will be on the river walk, which leads to the Globe Theatre, boutique shopping, cafes and the London Bridge. Here you will also see Big Ben and the London Eye. Cross the London Bridge and you will have journeyed to the Tower of London, ending your day of London sightseeing. There is a Tube station located across from the Tower of London which can take you back to your starting point.
