Good Trips for Singles

For singles, traveling can be an opportunity to meet new people or to celebrate their independence. Visiting international, cosmopolitan cities, such as New York, London and Paris, offers many cultural experiences to become immersed in, and many opportunities for singles to meet like-minded and interesting people from around the world.
  1. New York City

    • Marie Claire named New York City as one of the best cities for singles because of its smart and stylish residents. The city offers plenty of activities to appeal to almost any interest or taste. A single looking for love can check out bars and clubs catering to a variety of scenes --- the city's trendy meatpacking district on the far West Side has many such venues --- or stop by a gallery opening in such neighborhoods as Chelsea or Soho to meet someone of discerning taste. Independent singles can stay busy and meet new friends by attending one of the many festivals held throughout the year --- such as the CMJ music festival in the fall, or the Tribeca Film Festival in the spring --- visiting history and art museums or simply strolling the West Village in search of the perfect cafe. There are also concerts and theatrical shows every night to please the art-loving single; The Village Voice newspaper or New York magazine provide handy guides to such events.

    Paris

    • Famous for its romantic atmosphere, Paris isn't just a destination for couples. Singles can lounge and meet others on the Paris Plage, a man-made beach along the Seine, or check out one of the dozens of cultural events the city puts on every year. Paris has a lively cafe and bar culture where outgoing singles can socialize and meet new friends or love interests. The city has a rich architectural history, so every street corner can be a conversation point for a sharp-eyed single. Paris is teeming with nightclubs, as well as concerts and art shows for singles not keen to the club scene.

Check out the Luxembourg gardens for a pleasant stroll and plenty of outdoor activities. The Tuilleries Gardens are right near the Louvre, a must-see spot with one of the best art collections in the world. The Marais district has lots of restaurants, and the Left Blank has plenty of college bars for the younger crowds.

    London

    • London is rich in cultural and literary history, appealing to the more cerebral single. London's official tourism website lists more than a dozen different cultural communities with a prominent presence in London. This means there are dozens of cultures being represented in London's busy restaurant scene. Singles can enjoy a delicious Indian meal at lunch then check out one of the many venues showcasing the best of British theater. London's lively pub culture is an experience unto itself, and its museums, such as the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern, provide venues for connecting with smart, interesting people.

A great starting point for singles traveling in London is Piccadilly Circus. Centrally located and filled with shopping opportunities, it's a convenient meeting place for single friends or those looking to meet someone new. You can see a movie, grab a bite to eat or spend some money buying clothes and souvenirs.
