Why Romanian Is a Romance (Latin) Language

Romanian is a Romance language, directly descended from Vulgar Latin spoken in the Roman province of Dacia. It is distinct from its Western relatives due to:

• Geographic isolation from other Romance-speaking areas.
• Slavic influence from neighboring languages (vocabulary, phonology, grammar).

Spoken by ~25 million people, it is the official language of Romania and Moldova and a recognized minority language in Serbia, Ukraine, and Hungary. It is the most widely spoken language in Southeast Europe.
