Derived from Latin Siberia "siberia" (cold, arctic or frozen) + Greek tigre "tigris" (animal that attacks cattle, carnivore of the felidae species that inhabits temperate, subtropical and tropical areas).
Name used especially in North Asia, particularly in Siberia (Russia) where a subspecies of these large feline lives.
